Should I give my bank account number and social security number for a rental application?

I am filling out a form for a rental application and they want my bank name, account type, and account number, but not the balance. Also they ask for my full social security number. I know that this paperwork will just get filed away. They say its for reference reasons, what should I do? I don’t want to be denied.

    if it’s a big apartment or something its fine, but otherwise look out

    if you feel safe doing it you should if not then leave those things off and explain that you would rather not leave that personal information on there until you are approved for the rental, they should not have a problem with it
